Wellness and preventive care is vital to your cat’s long, happy and healthy life as a member of your family.  To maintain your cat’s best health, wellness preventative care includes routine:

  Wellness Exams and Consultations
Prevention for fleas, ear mites, & intestinal parasites
  Blood Work
  Dental Cleanings

At Perrin-410 Animal Hospital we pride ourselves in having a cat-friendly practice and take great care in making sure our clients and their cats feel comfortable in the clinic. Our separate lobby areas and separate exam rooms for dogs and cats were designed with you and your pet in mind to make your visit to the vet as easy as possible. We even use products that release pheromones in our exam rooms to help cats feel at ease in an unfamiliar environment.

Similar to humans, cats benefit from regular preventative wellness check-ups to maintain their best health. The frequency of visits may depend on your cat’s age, but we typically recommend visits every 6 months to keep all immunizations, including boosters, up-to-date.

Routine vaccinations are the best way to protect your cat from preventable illnesses. There are 3 vaccines that are especially important as the diseases being vaccinated against are highly contagious and may be air born, contracted through fecal/urine contamination, and can be spread by a stray/wild animals to your pet:

  • FVRCPC: Also known as the feline distemper vaccine is given yearly. If never given before the immunization needs to be boostered once in 3 weeks. FVRCPC protects against (FVR) Feline Rhinotracheitis Virus (feline herpesvirus 1), (C) Calicvirus, (P) Panleukopenia, and (C) Chlamydophila psittaci
  • Feline Leukemia (FeLv): The feline leukemia virus is the second leading cause of death in cats, behind trauma, so yearly vaccinations are strongly encouraged.  A feline leukemia test must be performed prior to immunization.
  • Rabies: Required by law, cats must always be up-to-date on the rabies vaccine. The dosage can be given in a one year immunization or a 3 year.

Cats should be on prevention all year long to keep them healthy. We recommend, Revolution, a monthly product that protects against heartworms, fleas, intestinal parasites, and ear mites, to all of our cat parents because it is an easy and effective way to keep your pet protected. Learn More.

Routine bloodwork allows us to screen your cat for internal health issues. We recommend annual bloodwork for cats under 6 years of age, and semi-annual bloodwork (every 6 months) for cats who are over 6 years of age.

A cat’s dental health can actually have a great impact on his or her internal health. A build-up of plaque and tartar can not only cause dental disease, but issues with the heart, liver, and kidneys. To help pet parents keep their cats healthy, we offer affordable dental cleaning options. We provide our clients with dental exams and estimates free of charge. To learn more, please visit our Cat Dental Health page.
